Une rencontre, un voyage, un engagement … une autre manière de continuer l’aventure !

Après avoir accueilli un fonctionnaire ivoirien sur mon lieu de travail et avoir sympathisé avec lui, je suis partie avec 3 collègues en Côte d’Ivoire. Notre collègue ivoirien, devenu un ami, nous a fait découvrir le sud de son pays, la côte avec ses superbes plages, la forêt équatoriale dense et bruyante et surtout son village, Morokinkro, situé en plein centre, au milieu des collines du pays « baoulé* ». La-bas, pas d’électricité, pas d’eau courante mais de la chaleur…. humaine surtout.

Sur place, après le choc des cultures, cela a été la révélation, un vrai coup de foudre pour la Côte d’Ivoire, son peuple, mais aussi pour l’Afrique en général.

Devant l’accueil reçu et tant de gentillesse témoignée malgré une vie parfois bien aléatoire et beaucoup moins « easy » que nous, il nous est apparu évident qu’on ne pouvait en rester là et se contenter du souvenir d’un beau voyage.

C’est pourquoi, nous avons fondé l’asbl « Les Enfants de Morokinkro » afin de venir en aide aux enfants du village de Morokinkro et leur permettre d’avoir accès à l’éducation. A ce jour, nous parrainons la scolarité primaire de 23 enfants. En plus, nous apportons une aide à tous les autres enfants du village ainsi qu’à tous les habitants en fonction de leurs besoins et de leur demande. Notre plus grand projet en cours, est la récolte des fonds nécessaires à la reconstruction des pavillons des classes de l’école.

A meeting, a trip, an involvement … another way of experiencing adventure!

After having welcomed a state employee of Ivory Coast at my work and sympathized with him I went with three colleagues to his country. Since then this man has becomed a friend and has made us discovering his native soil, the coastline and its wonderful beaches, the equatorial forest and especially his village Morokinkro, situated in the middle of the country, in the heart of the « baoulé* » countryside. At this place, there isn’t electricity or tap water but a lot of heat … human heat most of all.

On site, after having lived what we call “the shock of the cultures” it has become a revelation for us to be there. We'd fallen in love with the country and its inhabitants but also with Africa in general. After a deep welcome and many kindness we couldn’t just go back home without doing anything else to be more involved in the life of these people.

That’s why we have created a non-profit-making organization called “Les Enfants de Morokinkro” (Morokinkro’s Children) in order to help the children of the village and to give them a school education and a chance to enter the active life.

Up to now, we have supported 23 children that can go to primary school. Moreover, we help the other children and the residents by giving them what they need so as to make their lifestyle easier. At the moment, we are collecting funds to build new classrooms for the school.
